Good day, friends!
I've suddenly reached a blank on how to start of this post.
Let's just first of all say that, I have not posted anything for the longest time, and so today I was searching my brain for something to talk about.
Now, being a girl, I struggle with things most girls struggle with, one of them being modesty.
Oh sure, maybe I cover myself up more than others, but still. Sometimes I wonder, "Why?"
So, let's now turn to the book that always has pretty great answers called the Bible. And for those of you that don't look in it very much, I'd recommend it.
1 Timothy 2:9 -- Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness-- with good works.
So... I take it that back then, braiding the hair was a pretty vain thing. Perhaps conversations consisted of, "Ooh, look at her! That is totally not modest of her, how she's braided her hair and everything!!!"
Braiding of the hair is the least of our worries these days.
The last three words says it all.... "with good works". Our appearance needs to be so that it points to God. But how?
1 Peter 3: 3-4-- Do not let your adorning be external-- the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear--but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.
And gentle and quiet people usually don't wear the most immodest outfits in the world, do they.
Every girl is beautiful in her own way... let it shine! God made you so lovingly, from his own hands you were created. You are a child of the King.
Modest is more than a fashion statement; it's a daily decision to dress like a child of God that you are. -- Anonymous
